2009 WKA banquet announcements

11.19.2009 -- WKA's five national series will all be having their annual awards banquets in the coming months. The banquet schedule is much like last year's with one major change in that the Bully Clutches Gold Cup and Rage Karts Speedway Pavement banquets will be combined.

The awards get under way during Daytona KartWeek by Cometic Gasket. The George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda is the first on tap. Their banquet is Monday, Dec. 28 at the Daytona 500 Club located at Daytona International Speedway. The banquet will follow a full day of practice for the Margay Sprint Championships at Daytona's infield sprint-kart course. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 per person.

The Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda banquet will be the following night, Tuesday, Dec. 29, and again at the Daytona 500 Club. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $18 per person.

The remaining three WKA national series' banquets will be held in conjunction with KartFest 2010 at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, S.C. The Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series drivers will accept their awards Friday, Jan. 29. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $18 per person.

The Manuf. Cup, Road Racing and Speedway Dirt banquets are casual, relaxed receptions with heavy hors d'oeuvres.

The Gold Cup and Speedway Pavement series will have a combined banquet Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Carolina First Center. The awards presentations are combined into one buffet dinner and celebration. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7. Tickets are $25 per person.

Attendees for every banquet except Road Racing should contact Marie Borsuk at 704-455-1606 Ext. 11 or marie@worldkarting.com for more information. Road Racing attendees should contact Sissy Mendenhall at 704-455-1606 Ext. 13 or sissy@worldkarting.com.

Hannen Motorsports acquires Oakland Valley

11.19.2009 (CUDDEBACKVILLE, N.Y.) -- Hannen Motorsports is pleased to announce the acquisition of Oakland Valley Race Park on Friday, Nov.13. "We have put together a fantastic team for this venture including MRP / Birel America, Jay de Marcken and of course my parents, Peter and Colleen Hannen. Our focus is on developing a safe, friendly, and competitive environment for current and future racers", says Managing Owner Tim Hannen, a lifelong educator dedicated to youth development through racing.

Racing will continue through the winter with four trips to Florida supported by the Birel America race program but not exclusive of any chassis brand. For 2010, four points races in the Northeast Max Challenge have been secured and a big announcement concerning an international race at Oakland Valley Race Park in June is imminent. "We look forward to re-establishing OVRP as a World Karting Association "Master Track" and hope to participate in WKA regional and national events."

Oakland Valley Race Park is a half-mile, asphalt road course located in Cuddebackville, N.Y., just 60 miles from New York City, and has been the Northeast's premier karting facility for over 40 years.

For more information, contact Tim Hannen, president of Hannen Motorsports, at 845-754-8500 or e-mail thannen305@gmail.com.
