WKA's SpeedNews - 03.12.2004

WKA is excited to announce Bully Clutches as the Title Sponsor of the Heartland Speedway Dirt Series, premiering this May in Nebraska at Kartwheels Speedway. Bully Clutches has been a long time supporter of WKA karting and has gone beyond the call of duty by agreeing to sponsor this brand new WKA series in the Heartland of America.

WKA Director of Marketing, Tony Barton, and Vice President, Kenny Venberg have been working diligently with the fine people from that region to get this series started and promoted properly in an effort to grow karting in that area of the country. The Heartland region has been without a "true" national points structure until now. The series will consist of four races, counting the best three for the year end championship. Stay tuned for information regarding awards presentation.

"Having Bully Clutches on board as the Title Sponsor lends instant credibility to this new series. Being long time supporters of the WKA, we are certainly looking forward to working with Kermit and Mary Buller of Bully Clutches, and their Heartland dealers, to promote and grow karting in that region of the country.O - Tony Barton, WKA Director of Marketing

"A special thanks to all the kart shops, track owners, and karters who have offered their support and dedication to the Heartland Speedway Dirt Series presented by the Heartland Bully Clutch Dealers.

"WKA is honored to make its presence in the Heartland area of the United States. You can expect great racers and races ahead of us in the 2004 season." - Kenny Venberg, WKA Vice President

This Saturday and Sunday, March 13th and 14th, marks the opening weekend of the first ever Weekly Racing Series for Karting. Hanging Rock Kartway in South Carolina will host the first race in the Speedway (Asphalt and Dirt Oval) Division on Saturday while Sunshine Speedway hosts the first race in the Sprint (2-and 4-Cycle) Division on Sunday. To help kick off this brand new series, Tony Barton, WKA Director of Marketing, will be on hand at Hanging Rock Kartway to welcome the drivers and answer any questions or concerns the competitors may have.

JoeKarter.com, the official Web site of WKA's Weekly Racing Series, has all the latest news, results, schedules, and information not only for those participating in the WRS, but also the fans. The Weekly Racing Series is designed to recognize the local karter on the national level. Track champions, Regionals champions, and National champions will be crowned based on the Racing Performance Measure (RPM) system (check JoeKarter.com for specifics). This is an excellent opportunity for karters to compete against drivers in other parts of the country without the added expense and time of travel.

Despite roughly 18 inches of snow in the Concord, North Carolina area February 26, Mother nature has provided a reprieve to Lowe's Motors Speedway Officials in an effort to bring the legendary fifth mile paved oval back to life.

Temperatures in the upper seventies recently have not only melted the winter doldrums away, but allowed the LMS Track Crew to finish work in time for the Rage Karts by NC Chassis Nationals for the Ultramax Racing Chassis Speedway Pavement Series March 18 - 21. New guardrail and wheel fence has been installed around three quarters of the facility, providing tremendous runoff. Additionally, a large section of asphalt has been dug up and replaced on the backstretch, heading into turn three, with additional overlayment added in between turns three and four, thus building up a sagging area from the land settling over the years.

Activities are slated to begin Wednesday evening March 17 with pre-entry pickup and parking from 4 - 6 pm. Parking and registration will continue Thursday morning at 7am, with WKA hosting an optional practice session from 10am - 4pm. Friday will consist of another full day of practice from 9am - 4pm, with racing slated for Saturday and Sunday. For more information on the Rage Karts by NC Chassis Nationals, contact WKA Headquarters at 704.455.1606.
