GREGOR FISKEN IS BACK AT LE MANS AND AT THE WHEEL OF A WORKS LMP1 CAR!
Scottish sportscar racer and celebrated dealer in fine historic automobiles, Gregor Fisken, will make his third Le Mans 24 Hours start next weekend (17th June) in one of two Courage-Mugen-Yokohama LC70 prototypes entered by factory "LMP1" category team - Courage Competition.
It will be Fisken's first time in the 'premier league' at Le Mans, having last year raced an LMP2 Lola for the Intersport team, and in 2004 contested a GT2 category Porsche, finishing 6th in class.
Fisken is not without experience at LMP1 level however, having made his debut in the class at last year's Istanbul 1000kms aboard Team JOTA's Zytek.
The Scotsman, whose classic car business is based in Kensington, London, will be partnered in Le Mans by rising sportscar star, Sam Hancock, and 2004 LMP2 Le Mans Series Champion, Alex Frei. The trio will enjoy significant technical and engineering support from Mugen and Yokohama (engine provider and tyre supplier respectively), who both have a works relationship with the team.
After Sunday's official test day and his first time in the car, Gregor commented: "We've had a productive test today and tried some new parts developed specifically for Le Mans, which appear to have made some gains. We were hampered slightly by a few problems but overall it was an awesome experience driving a full-blown LMP1 car here at Le Mans -- just so much power, speed, downforce, grip - and pleasure!
"Also I'm absolutely thrilled to be driving for Courage -- to be a part of a factory level operation has been a real eye-opener for me and I cannot commend them enough on their technical structure and support, it's quite incredible. Every time we sit in the briefing room with all the engineers from Courage, Mugen and Yokohama, surrounded by all these stellar drivers I have to pinch myself! It's a real privilege to be involved and I just can't wait to get stuck into the race week."
