Repton manufacturer continues to lead the way

This weekend’s Six Hours of Silverstone features the debut of Zytek’s pure race hybrid system. The Repton-based company is already motor sport’s leading hybrid innovator. Its KERS system has won at Grand Prix level while, in 2009, a Zytek 09HS became the first Le Mans prototype hybrid to score a podium place. Now the latest example of its hybrid expertise is to be entered by GV Racing in the British round of the International Le Mans Challenge and the Le Mans Series. Zytek’s earlier hybrid system met the then regulations that stipulated the use of automotive production based parts. GV Racing’s 09SH will be the first Zytek to take full advantage of being able to use a pure race system. While many talk of entering hybrid sportscars, this makes Zytek the only manufacturer to be racing one currently.

The newly renamed Italian team, GV Racing has already raced its Dunlop-shod LMP1 Zytek in conventional form this year. Its driver line-up remains the same with Spaniard Maximo Cortes partnering Italians Ferdinando Geri and Giacomo Piccini.

Zytek will also be represented in the LMP2 class with what has been the most successful car in this category this year. The Greaves Motorsport, Nissan-engined Zytek Z11SN has not only won the LMP2 division at Le Mans, leading for the final 11 hours, but also heads the Le Mans Series with class victories at Paul Ricard and Imola. The drivers will again be the victorious trio from Le Mans, Karim Ojjeh, Tom Kimber-Smith and Olivier Lombard.

The Dunlop-shod Greaves car will be just one of four at Silverstone to use the dominant 4.5-litre Zytek/Nissan VK45DE V8 engine. Three Oreca-Nissan 03s will be on the grid from Signatech Racing (Franck Mailleux, Lucas Ordonez and Soheil Ayari), Boutsen Energy Racing (Dominik Kraihamer and Nicolas de Crem) and Spa-Francorchamps winning TDS Racing (Mathias Beche, Pierre Thiriet and Jody Firth).

The Autosport Six Hours of Silverstone takes place on Sunday, September 11, with a rolling start at 11.35am. Practice and qualifying at the world famous Northamptonshire track will be held during the previous two days.
