The Veloqx Prodrive Racing team is holding a steady 1-2 lead in the GTS category after six hours of racing - with one or other of the two scarlet Ferrari 550 Maranellos having been at the top of the class time sheets since the start of the race at 4:00pm.
All six drivers have now completed at least one double stint each in the car and, despite the high humidity and heat of the day, have all felt comfortable behind the wheel and driving well within the limits of the car.
An intermittent misfire for the Burt/Davidson/Turner nr.80 car at the beginning of the race was a minor concern for the team, which has since been resolved with an engine mapping change. Their slightly longer first pitstop, due to a data download to help solve the issue, dropped them back to third place [GTS] behind the third Care Racing owned Ferrari 550 in the race, the blue and white Luc Alphand Aventures entry.
The only full course yellow period of the race so far saw the class-leading Davies/Enge/Kox nr.88 car come into the pits for fuel but lose their lead to the sister Veloqx Prodrive car when held by marshals at the pit exit for over a minute. The two have since swapped 1st and 2nd places at every pit stop.
Jamie Davies, the only Veloqx Prodrive driver to so far do a triple stint, commented afterwards: "It felt really good, and there's still plenty of speed in the car but I was just taking it nice and steady. I actually didn't find it too hot - just got on with the job and enjoyed getting into a good rhythm."
