Nissan/Zytek Engine Quickest In Class
Pole position for new engine at Le Mans
Zytek Engineering developed and serviced Nissan LMP2 engines are on pole position in class for tomorrow’s 79th running of the Le Mans 24-hour race. Fastest in class by over a second is the Signatech Oreca-Nissan of Soheil Ayari, Franck Maileux and Lucas Ordonez. The team was strong throughout both Wednesday’s single and yesterday’s pair of two-hour qualifying sessions.
The top six in the LMP2 category also includes two other Nissan-VK45DE engined cars. The second Oreca-Nissan of Alexandre Primat, David Halliday and Dominik Kralhamer eventually finished in third place having run particularly well on the first evening with Alexandre at the wheel. Sixth was the Greaves Motorsport entry of Karim Ojjeh, Tom Kimber-Smith and Olivier Lombard, which makes use of Zytek’s own Z11SN chassis. The trio finished in 14th, 17th and 20th places overall behind the more powerful cars of the LMP1 class. A second Zytek, the Quifel-ASM LMP1 09SC, which is powered by Zytek’s own V8 engine, qualified 13th overall driven by Miguel Amaral, Olivier Pla and Warren Hughes.
The Nissan VK45DE 4.5-litre, normally aspirated engine is the result of a new partnership between Zytek Engineering and Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO). Having been involved in the development of the VK45DE, Zytek is also responsible for servicing and maintaining these engines. It is a busy year for Zytek Engineering, which has recently announced that it will be supplying V8 engines for the 2012-2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series.
