Drivers pleased with new Mopar W9 RP head

New Mopar race head help Tracy Hines dominate at Irwindale's Twin 25s

CENTER LINE, Mich. - Tracy Hines' impressive performance at the Mopar Twin 25s at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway left many in attendance wondering what the buzz was with his Mopar powerplant.

"Tracy's motor had the new W9 RP head," said Gary Stanton, engine builder for Hines and several other Mopar USAC teams. "That was the only thing we changed on that engine."

Stanton confirmed that the new head will soon be installed on the other new four-cylinder Mopar racing engines that he builds. Hines' car at Irwindale was the first Midget to utilize the new Mopar Performance W9 RP (Raised Port) head.

Some Mopar motors in the World of Outlaws series also currently use the W9 RP, including those of series points leader Danny Lasoski. Lasoski's two recent weekend preliminary and feature sweeps are proof that he is benefiting from the improved flow of the of the new Mopar cylinder head.

Steve Francis, the Mopar/Valvoline Dodge Intrepid R/T driver who is currently second in the Xtreme Dirt Car Series points, will be eager to have his own Stanton-built W9 RP installed to accelerate his assault on the points race.

The new W9 RP head is based on the original W9 cylinder head used the last several years in the USAC, UDTRA and World of Outlaws series. The raised ports create better air flow characteristics past the intake valve, because they create a more direct "line of sight" than the original W9. The new W9 RP head is available from Mopar Performance under part number P5007904.

Hines qualified third for the Twin 25s and took the lead of the first feature during the second lap. His lead was not seriously challenged for the rest of the race.

"What can I say about this Mopar power?" Hines exclaimed immediately after his victory in the first race. "Pretty awesome!"
