WINCHESTER SPEEDWAY FOR SALE

Historic Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Ind., the oldest short track in the United States built for the sport of auto racing, is for sale.

Owner/Promoter Linda Holdeman stated, "A complicated set of circumstances has forced me to put the famed 1/2-mile on the market."

"I will continue to operate the speedway until it is sold," she continued. "I have fought long and hard since my husband's death more than a year ago to overcome the circumstances which forced me to declare bankruptcy last July. I find it impossible at this time to find a solution which would satisfy everryone."

Holdeman's husband, Roger, succumbed to cancer between the 1995 and 1996 racing seasons. The speedway has been in trouble financially since his death.

"It is with a heavy heart that I make this move. I have come to love this wonderful speedway as my late husband did."

Only serious inquiries will be addressed by Holdeman. She may be reached at the speedway office: (317) 584-9701.

The next event on Winchester's schedule is a twinbill on May 22nd, featuring the USAC sprints and I-CAR Team Jasper modifieds. The speedway runs NASCAR Winston Racing Series programs and is a regular stopping point for the USAC sprints and midgets. It has been featured on numerous occasions on the ESPN cable television sports network's "Thunder" live racing program.
