Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Andrea Dovizioso has suffered an early setback ahead of this year’s MotoGP championship after the Italian suffered a broken right collarbone following a crash on his motocross bike.
Dovizioso, who finished third in last year’s championship for Repsol Honda was training on his motocross bike in Italy when the incident took place. The Italian posted the news last night (Thursday 5th January) on his twitter account @AndreaDovizioso stating: Fxxx, I broke my right collarbone doing motocross.
‘Dovi’ now joins fellow MotoGP star Nicky Hayden on the injured list after the American broke his left shoulder blade and cracked two ribs just under two weeks ago in a flat track incident near his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky.
However, while Hayden will not have to undergo surgery on his injuries after his latest visit to a specialist, Dovizioso will have to have an operation that is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday 7th January).
Despite the setback Dovizioso is adamant that he will be in Malaysia with the Tech 3 squad and teammate Cal Crutchlow for the first test of 2012 at the Sepang circuit and Team boss Herve Poncharal is also confident that his new signing will be fit for the test that starts on 31st January. Tech 3 have had their fair share of dealing with collarbone injuries recently after both Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow both suffered from the injuries last season.
