Dani Pedrosa is not venturing into predictions when it comes to this weekend’s Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya – a home race for the Repsol Honda Team rider, which he won in the premier class for the first and so far only time five years ago.

After five of 18 Grands Prix in 2013, Pedrosa leads the championship by the reduced margin of 12 points from Mugello winner Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing). When asked to forecast upcoming events at the Circuit de Catalunya, Pedrosa is cautious.

“It is obviously a good feeling to be coming back to this race because it is always an exciting one for me,” says the Spaniard, who hails from the city of Sabadell – approximately half an hour’s drive from the Circuit de Catalunya.

“All the fans will be cheering out loud for me and I always feel very special there…so I’m looking forward to going there and doing a good race."

When specifically asked to envisage who could be in contention, Pedrosa replies:

“It’s difficult to say now whether it will be a Honda circuit or a Yamaha circuit, but I hope that the bike goes well there and that we can have a good race against the Yamahas. I would say that victories are key at this stage of the championship and, with strong rivals, it is important to be on the podium.”

The 27-year-old has finished on the rostrum in four of the five races to be staged so far this season, having won in Spain and France and finished second in Texas and Italy.
