Vinales: Suzuki bike was "impossible to trust" at Assen

Maverick Vinales was left frustrated by a muted performance in the wet-weather Dutch TT race, saying he could not "trust" his Suzuki GSX-RR in the rain.

Vinales was a despondent P18 after the opening laps, and failed to make up much ground during the first half of the race before it was red-flagged for heavy rain.

He was in P13 for the restart and ended up taking the chequered flag in P9, with only 12 riders finishing on the lead lap.

"Even in the first race, I was in the straight and I was riding all the straight with fifth and sixth gear," Vinales said.

"Maybe the team needs to work on the electronics 'cause it cannot be that in the dry the bike is so good, then we arrive to the wet and we cannot ride.

"It's like riding on ice. I think they need to improve this side."

The Spaniard's teammate Aleix Espargaro likewise struggled, moving up to P3 with a great start only to slump to P15 and subsequently crash out.

Vinales continued: "It was impossible for me to trust the bike cause I was crashing in all the corners, I was going really slow. That's why I don't understand."

Asked if his lack of experience with MotoGP electronics in the wet could have contributed, Vinales said: "Really I don't know, because even when I was behind Tito [Rabat, a rookie], he was getting away.

"I mean, this is the set-up. For sure, we need to find... they also didn't have experience and finally they found, we need to work.

"It cannot be that it starts to rain and we're at the back when normally in the dry we're at the front."
