STECKLY ADDS TO CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS LEAD WITH WIN
BARRIE, Ontario, Canada (June 30, 2008) -- The cream rises at Barrie Speedway, at least when the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competes there.
Scott Steckly, who leads the series standings, won the Sirius Satellite 300 at the .333-mile oval, besting a field of 21 cars. Don Thomson Jr., who is second in the standings, finished second in the race.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Canadian Tire Series and has been part of the series for many years. The bias-ply tires supplied to the Canadian series are the same as those provided to the NASCAR Camping World Series East and West divisions. The excellent performance of Goodyear's tires was part of the reason Thomson was able to set a track record in qualifying.
Thomson's record qualifying lap averaged 86.226 mph. Steckly's margin of victory was .963 of a second.
D.J. Kennington finished third in the race, followed by Derek Lynch and Brad Graham.
Steckly's advantage in the championship chase is 540-471.
