Goodyear Racing Mosport II race report

WHITLOCK ENDS WINLESS STRING WITH CASCAR VICTORY

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Canada (Aug. 12, 2006) -- Dave Whitlock ended a two-year winless streak in CASCAR Super Series competition by capturing the Mosport Speedway 200 at Mosport Speedway.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for CASCAR racing. It also sponsors the Goodyear Belts and Hoses Fastest Lap Award for the driver turning the fastest lap during the race. Don Thomson Jr. produced the fastest lap during the Mosport race, touring the half-mile facility in 21.975 seconds. That compares to the pole-winning qualifying lap of 21.852 seconds by Mark Dilley.

Whitlock, who started 10th, led the final 31 laps on his way to collecting the victory. The margin of victory was just over a third of a second.

Kerry Micks finished second, followed by J.R. Fitzpatrick, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Thomson.

Fitzpatrick leads the championship standings by a margin of 1,221 to 1,198 over defending Thomson.
