Steckly unveils new race car for Mosport event

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Saturday August 8, 2009: Scott Steckly driver of the No. 22 Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger started sixth on Saturday night at Mosport Speedway in the Vortex Brake Pads 200 and finished 2nd. Event eight of the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series tour saw Steckly and his team unveil their new race car.

The 22 Racing Team decided it was time to debut the new car that they have been working on since early in the 2009 race season. The late arrival of the car well into the first few races and the limited practice opportunities for it are the reason they haven't had it out sooner. "We lost our last motor for our old oval car last week in Vernon," said Steckly. "We have had very limited practice with this new car and it is quite different but we hope it will be okay," he added during practice.

050-1.jpg Steckly lined up sixth for the start of the Vortex Brake Pads 200 after time trials were completed. By lap 50 he was solidly in third place and setting his sights on the front runners Kennington & Thomson. After Kennington took over the lead Steckly quickly moved past Thomson as well for second. After a long green flag run the caution finally flew and then leader Ranger and Steckly ducked to the pits for tires and fuel. While battling rain showers in their area, the skies finally cleared and with fifty laps remaining the drivers were ready for the run to the checkered flag. The Dodge driver did everything he could to catch Ranger but it was not to be and the No. 22 Canadian Tire Avenger crossed the finish line in second. "Not a bad run for us with a new car," said Steckly after the race. "We just need to test it a bit more and make some adjustments and I think we will be even better. It was another great run for us and our sponsors Canadian Tire, Tow Truck in a Box, Motomaster, Exide, Mobil Super, Erb, AW Millwrights, Marks Work Warehouse and Reefer Sales."

D. J. Kennington finished third with Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Don Thomson Jr. rounding out the top five. Steckly now unofficially is 46 points behind leader Andrew Ranger with five races remaining.

The Vortex Brake Pads 200 from Mosport will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday August 23rd at 12 p.m. EST.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series teams now set their sights on Trois Rivieres, QC for the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres next weekend.
