Andrew Ranger scores third Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto pole award
Andrew Ranger celebrates 100th NASCAR Pinty’s Series race by winning the pole award for the third time in the four-year history of the event held on the street course in Toronto on Friday.
Andrew Ranger really likes racing the street course in Toronto during the Honda IndyCar Toronto weekend.
Ranger held off Alex Tagliani by just two-tenths of a second to win the pole for Saturday’s Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. Ranger scored his 21st career pole in the series with a fast lap of 1:16.785 (82.282 mph) to equal his starting spot in last year’s race.
Tagliani, who won in Toronto last season holding off Ranger in a green-white-checkered finished, was a close second at 1:16.976 (82.078 mph). Kevin Lacroix, who won last week at Circuit ICAR, finished third. All three drivers collected podium finishes in this race last season.
Adam Andretti provided the surprise of the day qualifying fourth in his first NASCAR Pinty’s Series race.
Andretti, the brother of former NASCAR Cup Series driver John Andretti, finished with a fast lap of 81.491 mph before he hit the wall in qualifying and suffered a flat tire. Marc-Antoine Camirand completed the top five.
Qualifying sixth was Alex Labbe with L.P Dumoulin, Anthony Simone, Gary Klutt and J.F. Dumoulin rounding out the top 10.
The Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto will get underway at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
