Kevin Lacroix, who now trails Alex Labbe by 10 points for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series championship lead, joins the points leader as the only other driver to score three wins this season.

The St. Eustache, Québec driver is not only chasing the points lead, he’s also chasing history this weekend in the Can-Am Le 50 Tours on Sunday.

Lacroix will try and tie Andrew Ranger’s record of three straight wins in the prestigious event and keep his streak of winning every road course race held so far this season.

The championship contender picked up his first win at GP3R in Trois-Rivières during his rookie season of 2015 and backed it up with his second on the historic course last August.

The first win took a late pass of Andrew Ranger, while Lacroix dominated in last year’s event setting a course record in qualifying and leading all 50 laps.

“I enjoy driving the course and it seems to fit my driving style,” said Lacroix. “We won there two years ago with a late pass and last year won the pole and led every lap for our second win. Hopefully we can get another win there.”

The race is also important to Labbe who’s also looking for his first series crown. Labbe has scored all of four of his wins on oval tracks while Lacroix has scored all seven of his series wins on road courses.

A win by Labbe would be important in his chase for the title, while Lacroix could tie Ranger’s record of most consecutive wins at one track and possibly retake the points lead.

“We’ve gotten better on road courses and especially there at GP3R picking up a couple of top-five finishes,” added Labbe.

While Lacroix and Labbe are locked in a tight points battle, another driver expected to perform well there is Ranger.

Ranger suffered a sudden illness two weeks ago in Edmonton and was forced to miss the race, effectively taking him out of the race for the championship. Now, he just wants to win races and he’s been the master of the temporary road course in his home province.

He leads all drivers with four wins in the 10-year history of this NASCAR-sanctioned event and has finished second in the other six races.

Reigning series champion Cayden Lapcevich is looking for his first road course win is Pinty’s Series.

The NASCAR Next driver is the only other driver to win this season in the series and now has five career wins – all on ovals.
