Toronto's Scott Maxwell took part in his first ever CASCAR Castrol Super Series event on Sunday afternoon and managed a surprise win in his series debut. Driving the STP / Ford Performance Parts Taurus, the road racing star diced with polesitter Robin Buck through most of the race and managed to score a solid victory in the 75 lap UAP/NAPA Presents Canadian Auction Group 300 at Mosport Park.

Buck, a former road racer, himself, has been a CASCAR regular for the past few seasons and took second at the finish, ahead of Barrie's Alan Turner.

On the strength of his seventh place run, reigning CASCAR National champion Dave Whitlock jumped ahead of Peter Gibbons in the championship hunt. Gibbons struggled to a 28th-place finish. The fourth and final round of the 1998 National championship is scheduled for next weekend at London's Delaware Speedway Park.
