STECKLY PRACTICES AND QUALIFIES STRONG BUT RACE DAY ENDS EARLY IN TROIS RIVIERES
TROIS RIVIERES, QC, Sunday August 16, 2009: The No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger of Scott Steckly had a good weekend up until lap 12 of the of the 43 lap 100 km GP3R 100 on Sunday afternoon. A gear failure was the culprit and a 27th place finish was the result.
054-1.jpg Steckly and his No. 22 Canadian Tire Avenger arrived in Trois Rivieres on Thursday and made appearances at two Canadian Tire stores prior to the weekend race events.
At the track on Friday, Steckly was scored second quickest following the early evening practice session. Alex Tagliani who was also sporting Canadian Tire colours for the weekend was the quickest. Things were looking good for the Canadian Tire entries. Qualifying took place on Saturday afternoon and Steckly was seventh quickest with Tagliani taking the pole position.
At the drop of the green Steckly fell into line and was pacing the car and saving the equipment. The Grand Prix circuit is known to be hard on brakes and equipment so Steckly was cruising in seventh when the car slowed on the track. He was able to coast his Canadian Tire Avenger off the racing surface, but a disappointing twenty-seventh place finish was the result. "I am really disappointed for Canadian Tire today," said Steckly. "They had a lot of guests here today and we wanted to put on a good show for them and run up front. We had a great car all weekend but sometimes things like this happen and you just have to continue to work hard and move on to the next race."
Steckly and his team will now prepare for the final road course event of the season at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in two weeks.
