Trois-Rivieres: Trevor Seibert race notes

SEIBERT RUNS STRONG ON THE STREETS OF TROIS RIVIERES

August 16, 2009. Trevor Seibert and the Lake Excavating Ford Fusion hit the streets at the 40th edition of the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres this past weekend at round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. From the first practice team appeared to be in line for a solid finish until a mechanical problem would cost them in the 100km race Sunday afternoon.

Seibert had shown in the first visit by the NASCAR Canadian Tire series at Trois Rivieres that given a competitive car he could succeed claiming a podium finish. After an inspiring run from the back of the pack to a fourth place finish in Edmonton the Lake Excavating Ford Fusion driver expected comparable success at Trois Rivieres.

Right from the first practice session on Friday the team battled with braking issues. "It started during the first session and was there again during qualifying" said the driver of the #69 Ford. "I couldn't adjust the brake balance properly and we discovered that the right front pad had actually broken" or we might have qualified even better" he added.

Trevor would start the 100km feature race on Sunday afternoon from the ninth position and his experience told him to be patient and let the race come to him. Despite losing a couple of positions in the first few laps Seibert never felt pressured to push the Lake Excavating Ford Fusion harder. "At this kind of track you can't be too aggressive; if you wait the cars that are charging hard ahead of you will come back to you.

Seibert's approach would prove to be correct and by the one quarter mark of the race the Lake Excavating Ford Fusion was starting to regain sight of the cars ahead of him and Trevor plotted his strategy to retake positions, and continue to charge forward as the race progressed. The race was not even to halfway when the teams luck would change for the worse.

Just as Seibert began working the #69 Lake Excavating Ford ahead he felt something amiss under the hood. "On the front of the motor we have our water pump and it mounts onto our timing chain cover, and that mounts to the motor plate" explained the driver. It vibrates, sometimes too much and we pushed a gasket out the other day and I'm not sure if it's a gasket or we broke it, I've talked to a couple of other teams that said they've encountered the same thing so we'll change that in the off season. But we'll go to Montreal in two weeks and keep a closer eye on it make sure it doesn't become a problem during the race" he added.

The #69 Lake Excavating Ford Fusion would complete only thirteen laps of competition before being forced to retire for the afternoon.

Trevor Seibert and the Lake Excavating Team will be back in action on the weekend of August 29th & 30th at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races as part of the Nationwide series weekend.
