Notes: This is the first time this specific combination of Goodyear Eagles/Wranglers will be used in NASCAR competition . . . the previous combination of left- and right-side tires for Atlanta was in place for the last three Cup races at the track . . . Atlanta is the only track on which Nextel Cup teams are scheduled to compete on these tire codes in 2004 . . . both the Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck Series teams will compete on the same tires this weekend, though the Cup tires are branded as "Goodyear Eagles" while the Truck tires are branded as "Goodyear Wranglers" . . . as on all ovals longer than one mile, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Atlanta . . . inner liner inflation should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
Goodyear Quote -- Mark Keto, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Tire Development: "The track surface at Atlanta has the highest wear characteristics of any of the one-and-a-half-mile ovals NASCAR goes to, and a unique tire set-up is required because of that. With Goodyear's new generation of tire, we will bring a softer sidewall construction to Atlanta this year, though the tread compound remains the same as in the past."
