Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 2 to Join Cheerios at Winston Cup Season Finale

Minneapolis, Minn. (November 11, 1999)--An animated cast of characters will join Johnny Benson and General Mills as they compete in the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup season finale, the NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Nov. 21. Along with primary sponsor Cheerios, Johnny Benson's No.26 Ford Taurus will feature "Woody's Roundup," a special paint scheme that marks the arrival of Disney and Pixar's new movie, Toy Story 2, which will open over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tom Hanks, the voice of "Woody" and Tim Allen the voice of "Buzz Lightyear," unveiled three special paint schemes on October 23rd at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. In addition to Benson's No. 26 Cheerios / "Woody's Roundup" Ford Taurus, Kyle Petty will compete in the No. 44 Hot Wheels / "Buzz Lightyear" Pontiac and Bill Elliott will have a cast of Toy Story characters on his No. 94 McDonalds Ford Taurus.

To commemorate this special event, General Mills will also feature a mail-in coupon for a collectible Hot Wheels. two pack of Toy Story 2 1:64 scale die-cast cars, featuring the #26 Cheerios/Woody car and the #44 Hot Wheels/Buzz Lightyear car. This offer is available only on 20 oz. packages of Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios and Lucky Charms, beginning in November.

"This is the first time Disney has appeared on a Winston Cup car and we are very honored that we are involved," commented Laurie Greeno, Vice President of Motorsports for General Mills. "This is a cooperative effort between Disney, General Mills, Mattel and McDonalds and we are very excited about competing in the season finale with Disney on board and our special die-cast promotions that will be launched in November. We feel that all companies involved are very family-oriented companies and make a perfect match."

General Mills' Cheerios, Betty Crocker and Pop Secret brands are in their second year of their long-term sponsorships in the sport of NASCAR.
