DIAMOND HILL PLYWOOD 200 PRE-RACE NOTES Darlington Raceway -- Saturday, March 22

Ricky Craven, driver of the No. 2 Raybestos Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Busch Series, will start at the rear of the field in today's Diamond Hill Plywood 200 after Series officials found a problem with his frame following yesterday's (Friday's) Busch Pole Award Qualifying. In normal post-qualifying inspection procedure of the top five qualifiers, NASCAR Busch Series officials found an offset frame. As a result, Craven's team was instructed to fix the frame, which was done, and Craven will take the green flag at the rear of the field after dropping out of his third spot.

TRANSOUTH FINANCIAL 400 PRE-RACE NOTES JIM LONG (Crew chief No. 10 Tide Ford) -- Ricky's (Rudd) a little bit better than he was yesterday but he's got the flu. The flu kind of puts you in a daze and you just don't make wise decisions. He's struggling driving the car and that's why we brought Elton (Sawyer, fellow Chesapeake, Va., driver) over here to practice the car this morning. We're going to play it by ear. He could be better tomorrow and he could make it all the way. Elton did a real good job for us in practice and I think it's going to be an easy switch on pit road. He'll be standing by if we need him.

ELTON SAWYER (No. 38 Barbasol Ford) -- (On potentially replacing Ricky Rudd in the TranSouth Financial 400.) He'll make the call and if he needs me I'll be more than happy to help him. Ricky's been awful helpful to me over the years so if there's anything l can do to help him I will. (After running the car in Saturday morning practice.) I think we'll be fine. The seat was OK. He likes the steering wheel a little bit lower than I do. I'll have to have it adjusted but that's a decision we'll have to make because we'll probably lose a lap to make the driver change. They'll have to evaluate all that and Ricky will make the call on his health. (How good is Rudd's car compared to other NASCAR Winston Cup cars he's driven?) You can just look at where they are in the points (sixth). It's awful good equipment. My goal and my job is to keep them from losing too many valuable points -- to get it home and try to keep the fenders on it. Ricky and I have talked some in the past about doing some things but this'll be the first.

NASCAR WINSTON CUP FAMILY NOTES Mark & Pam Wallace, co-owners of the No. 77 Jasper Engines/Federal-Mogul Ford driven by Bobby Hillin, became parents of a baby boy at about 10 a.m. Saturday. The child was born about six weeks early, so his father, who was at the race track this morning, scrambled to the hospital when he got the call, according to Jasper representative Mark Rompf.

Kim Long, administrative assistant for the No. 37 Kranefuss/Haas Racing / Kmart/RC Cola Ford driven by Jeremy Mayfield, gave birth to Braxton Blaine Long, 8 lbs. 7 oz., this morning at 12:14. Mother, husband Darrell and Braxton's sister Whitney are doing well, according to team representative Chip Williams.
