CONCORD, N.C. (July 25, 2000) -- NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton,Jr. proved father doesn't always know best during round seven of the Wendy's Summer Shootout Tuesday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The second-generation Tennessee racer topped his Winston Cup racing father, Bobby, in the NASCAR Grudge Match, but the record books will show the victory came with an "assist." After splitting victory honors in the first two, two-lap races on the quarter-mile front stretch oval, the elder Hamilton spun his son in turn two on the opening lap of the third and final race. Hamilton, driver of the No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo, waited for his son to recover from the spin and then chased him to the checkered flag in the Winston Cup-style convertibles. Hamilton, Sr., decided to give the crowd an extra thrill as he mischievously jumped into the LMS Mascot's (Lugnut) convertible Legends Car (Lug Bug) and took it for a spin down the frontstretch.

Quotes From Bobby Hamilton, Sr. "We had a blast. Just to be able to come out and spend some quality time with my son at a family event like this is neat. He told me beforehand that he was going to wreck me. I simply told him if he wrecked me that I'd go rent a Busch (Grand National) car and go out in one of his races and wreck him back. I think he got the message. Seriously, this was a lot of fun. When things happen around the track like those that have lately, it really seems to bring people closer together. The two series (Winston Cup and BGN) haven't been together too much lately, so I have not been able to spend much time with "Little" Bobby. I've got to admit, I'm more concerned about him now than I used to be. Not really worried about him, because he uses his head on the track. Just more concerned. We talk to each other by phone more than we used to when we are competing at different tracks. He wants me to help him get a Dodge Viper, so he told me he wouldn't wreck me, if I'd remember that. The folks at LMS really put together a neat deal for families to get together and enjoy racing. We had fun, but next time I'll take the checkered flag!

Quote from Bobby Hamilton, Jr. "Hey Dad, I didn't wreck you. Do I get the Viper?"
