BUSCH: J.Gordon set for double duty in Homestead-Miami

HOMESTEAD, Fla., (Oct. 24, 2000) -- Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Chevrolet team retrieved some productive information

on Tuesday during the first day of NASCAR Winston Cup testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Nov. 10-12 Pennzoil 400 weekend.

"You always want to get as much time as you can," Gordon said during a break in testing. "The test is pretty good. We're just gathering information. It's always good anytime you can get information."

Gordon is among the many drivers testing at the 1.5-mile South Florida facility in preparation for the Nov. 11 Miami 300 and the Nov. 12 Pennzoil 400. Drivers testing their Winston Cup machines were Gordon, Terry Labonte, Jimmy Spencer, Mike Skinner, Wally Dallenbach, Robert Pressley, John Andretti, Casey Atwood, Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett, Ricky

Rudd, Kurt Busch, Johnny Benson, Sterling Marlin, Ted Musgrave, Randy Tolsma, and Steve Park.

During the test session, Tolsma banged up his No. 61 Pontiac, which was

purchased recently from MB2 Motorsports. Tolsma was uninjured.

Shaking down their Busch Series machines were Kevin Harvick, Blaise Alexander, Mike Dillon, Brandon Butler, Joe Nemechek and Buckshot Jones.

Testing continues through Thursday.

Gordon, who finished 10th in last year's Pennzoil 400, is looking forward for his trip back to Miami. The Pittsboro, Ind., native will be pulling double duty, competing in both the Miami 300 Busch Series event and the Pennzoil 400 Winston Cup Series event.

The Miami 300 is Gordon's last planned Busch Series start of his career. The Busch Series season finale will also be Mark Martin's last BGN race.

"It's certainly one of the most unique race tracks," Gordon said of Homestead-Miami Speedway. "It's one that's really important to test at and gets laps at and get information in the computers. It's such a tricky race track to get around. It's hard to find the right combination."
