Birmingham, AL - Jack Roush's private plane crashed late Friday into a lake near Troy, Alabama. Roush was airlifted to University Hospital in Birmingham. His condition is critical, but stable at this time.
Roush owns the Winston cup teams of Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch. He also owns the Busch series teams of Jeff Burton and Greg Biffle as well as the truck team of Jon Wood.
Roush, who turned 60 on the day of the accident, April 19, is the owner of Roush Industries -- a company involved in many aspects of the auto industry and beyond.
UPDATE: 2002-04-20 (2:00 am EDT)
NASCAR vice president for corporate communications Jim Hunter issued
this statement from the hospital:
"Jack Roush was in an accident in an airplane earlier this evening," He is currently under evaluation in a 'wait-and-see' situation. He is in critical condition. We are trying to find out the extent of his injuries and the doctors are evaluating him. Roush Racing plans to make a statement Saturday morning at the track."
UPDATE: 2002-04-20 (11:30 am EDT)
Jack Roush is currently in a medically induced coma. He suffered and has
two broken legs. He is listed in critical but stable condition at the
University of Alabama Birmingham Trauma Center.
Reports from Associated Press are that a resident of the neighborhood, Larry Hicks, pulled Roush from the wreckage.
According to a Roush team statement, the teams will compete in this weekend's Winston Cup and Busch Grand National events.
