FIRST WEEKEND OF DOUBLE DUTY FOR EDWARDS

CONCORD, N.C.) -- This weekend Carl Edwards kicks off his first of three consecutive weekends of double-duty racing. Edwards, who is competing full time in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, will have to split his time between Pocono Raceway and Nashville Superspeedway.

Next week he will travel between Michigan and Kentucky, followed by the most challenging weekend traveling between Sonoma, Calif., and Elkhart Lake, Wisc. This is the sixth year Edwards has split his time racing in both series to compete for both championships.

This weekend Edwards will practice and qualifying his No. 99 Kellogg's Ford Fusion in Pocono on Friday, and run both practice sessions on Saturday. When practice ends he will dash to a plane for the trip to Lebanon, Tenn., where he will qualify his No. 60 Copart Ford and race it at 7 p.m. (CT) that evening. Once the Nationwide race ends, he will fly back to Pocono to get some rest for the 200-lap Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 on Sunday. Erik Darnell will practice Edwards' Nationwide car on Friday.

In 24 previous weekends of running the split schedule since 2005, Edwards has three Cup and six Nationwide wins. During the split weekends his average Cup finish is 11.75 and his average Nationwide finish is 12.2.
