DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Ricky Rudd is on a roll going into Saturday night's Pepsi 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. The driver of the No. 28 Texaco/Havoline Taurus has had five top-five finishes in the last seven races. "If you look at our performance in the past seven races statistically or mathematically, we should have been in victory lane by now," Rudd said. "Some teams that have won haven't been there every week like we have. "I told my guys, 'don't do anything different than your doing.' We're doing exactly what we need to do. The communication keeps getting better and we keep progressing. With consistent top-five finishes every week, sooner or later you're going to win something." That something Rudd hopes for is a victory Saturday at Daytona. Rudd started second in the Daytona 500 and won a Gatorade Twin-125 qualifying race in February. "We tested a couple of weeks ago at Daytona," Rudd said. "We weren't as good as we needed to be in the race in February and there has been a rule change since we were there. The test was a big help for us and I'm confident we'll be better this time around." Rudd finished 15th in the Daytona 500. Since then, Rudd has achieved seven top-10 finishes; five of those top-five's and has climbed to sixth in the point standings. The last time Rudd was as high as sixth in the standings was April, 1997. Last year coming into Daytona, he was mired in 38th. Ricky Rudd's strong performance definitely indicates he is on a roll. With some luck, a solid run at Daytona will roll him into victory lane.
