Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will head to Martinsville Speedway Sunday, April 3rd for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Goody’s Fast Relief 500 with Dave Blaney behind the wheel of the No. 36 TBR Chevrolet.
TBR AT MARTINSVILLE – Since the team’s inception in 2009, TBR made four starts at Martinsville Speedway. TBR’s best start was 34th with Dave Blaney in the fall of 2010. The team’s best finish also came in 2010 when Mike Bliss finished 25th in the spring race.
BLANEY AT MARTINSVILLE – Blaney made 20 starts at the .526-mile short track since his debut in 2000. Blaney collected two top-10 starts, four top-20 finishes and 34 laps led. The Buckeye Bullet had his career-best start of sixth in the fall race in 2006 with Bill Davis Racing. He collected his career-best finish of 16th in the 2005 spring race driving for Richard Childress Racing.
CHASSIS NO. 78 – Blaney will pilot the No. 78 chassis the team ran initially at Phoenix. The TBR team worked diligently to rebuild the car following an incident in Phoenix. The team also ran the chassis at Martinsville and Richmond last season.
LAST RACE RECAP: AUTO CLUB 400 – Blaney qualified 31st for the Auto Club 400, but an engine change forced him to start from the tail end of the field. Throughout the 400-mile race at Auto Club Speedway, the TBR team battled the handling of the No. 36 TBR Chevrolet. With the No. 13 car, who sat in the 35th spot in owner points, in sight, the team made the final pit stop of the day. As Blaney pulled off pit road, the pinion in the rear broke and forced him to the garage. The TBR team finished 37th.
IN THE POINTS – The No. 36 TBR Chevrolet is currently 37th in owner points, nine points outside the top-35. Blaney is currently 35th in NSCS driver points.
TOP-35 IMPORTANCE – Starting this weekend at Martinsville Speedway, the 2011 NSCS Owner Points will guarantee the top-35 teams a starting spot each week. The No. 36 TBR team’s main goal of the weekend is to work their way into the top-35 and guarantee a spot in the race at Texas Motor Speedway. If the No. 36 TBR Chevrolet moves into the top-35 this weekend, it will be the first time since the team’s inception in 2009 that TBR will have a guaranteed starting spot, which would allow the team to focus solely on race day setup instead of qualifying.
