Jimmy Spencer Finishes 20th In Shootout

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 10, 2002)– The Target Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer finished 20th in the Shootout at Daytona International Speedway.

Prior to the race, Spencer drew the 10th starting position for the Shootout. On the first lap of the race, Spencer ran into the back of the car in front of him and damaged the front of his car. The damage put the Target Dodge at an aerodynamic disadvantage and Spencer slowly dropped to the back of the field and finished the event three laps down.

“ Ricky Rudd evidently missed a shift or something broke at the start of the race,” Spencer said. “ We were right between shifts, right between second and third. There was nothing I could do. I just ran into the back of the car in front of me, Ryan Newman. I feel bad for him, and I feel bad for my team. You really needed this for a test. I think those guys that finished in the top-10 really learned a lot. I’m hoping that Sterling (Marlin) learned a lot and they can feed it to our team.”

Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the Gatorade 125 Qualifying races on Thursday, Feb. 14.
