Former Winston Cup Director Beaty passes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 30, 1998) Dick Beaty, who served as NASCAR Winston Cup Director from 1980 until retiring from that position following the 1992 season, has passed away at his home in North Carolina. Cause of death could not immediately be confirmed.

The following is a statement released Monday by Bill France, President of NASCAR:

"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dick Beaty. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, Mae, and family. Dick was a dedicated and loyal member of the NASCAR family whose efforts and hard work helped us grow the sport. He was instrumental in building and developing the competition side of NASCAR."

Beaty was a former motorcycle racer and NASCAR stock car racer and a long-time NASCAR official. His input was instrumental in the selection of current NASCAR Winston Cup Director Gary Nelson, who succeeded Beaty.
