Dover II: GM teams race quotes

Jeff Burton -- ...

Jeff Burton -- #31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet
11th position

TELL US ABOUT YOUR RACE We're disappointed there at the end. We pitted and lost a couple of spots and never could make them up. Then Nemechek and I got together and messed the fender up and that pretty much messed us up.

Joe Nemechek -- #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet
17th position

HOW WAS YOUR RACE? Our Army Chevy was better than the result. We were running in the top 10 for a long time and then I got clipped (right-front fender) leaving pit road. That put us behind and we were playing catchup the rest of the race. And then at the end I got turned around by the No. 31 (Jeff Burton) with five (laps) to go and had no choice but to come in to get new tires. This was the best car we had here in a long time and it's too bad we couldn't get at least a top-10 finish.

Tony Stewart -- #20 The Home Depot Chevrolet
18th position

TELL US ABOUT YOUR RACE Yeah, nobody saw this coming for sure. This thing drove a lot better yesterday, I don't know why it was so bad today, but I thank all these guys on this Home Depot team. None of us gave up all day. We got a lap down twice and got up and got the Lucky Dog twice and got back. Just tried to do what a lot of guys do which pays off which has never paid off for us which was short pitting like that, but it got us a lap down to where we couldn't get in the top 10. But, I'm just proud of them. It was a lot better car at the end than from where we started.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DAY? FRUSTRATING? I'd probably describe it as frustrating, probably. It wasn't the day we were looking for by any means. You know, it's obvious when you don't run in the top 10 and you run as bad as we did all day that it's not a good day so I think that's pretty obvious to everybody.

IT SEEMED LIKE YOU WERE PUMPING EVERYBODY UP ON THE RADIO. HOW MUCH OF A LEADER DO YOU NEED TO BE IN THE CHASE? I'm doing everything Greg Zipadelli has taught me the last seven years. So, I'm just trying to do my part today. It was obvious it wasn't a good race car and obvious we don't know why. We'll wait until we get to the shop to find out. But those guys didn't give up and I wasn't going to give up and it means a lot to those guys to hear it on the radio.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NEXT? We've got to just go back to do what we've been doing. Obviously something happened today, this wasn't the way our car drove yesterday. There's something wrong there, but we'll be fine. We'll get caught up.

Michael Waltrip -- #15 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet
26th position

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING TO TALLADEGA? I'm ready. I'm disappointed in what we did here this weekend. That will be good medicine and a good place to go. I mean, this weekend was embarrassing. I pushed every time I went to the race track. I told them every time: loosen me up, loosen me up. And we never could fix it. It just was like being in jail.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -- #8 Budweiser Chevrolet
31st position

Note: An unexpected pit stop on Lap 20 brought driver Earnhardt, Jr. to his pits for repairs. The stop put him a number of laps down.

WHY DID YOU COME IN ON LAP 20 FOR AN UNSCHEDULED PIT STOP? Brakes. I don't know, something was going on with the brake pedal. I thought I lost the brakes altogether, so I took it to pit road.

WAS THE PROBLEM EVER RESOLVED? It never fully went away, but it obviously wasn't as bad as I thought. I mean, I thought the brakes were gone (on lap 20), because the pedal would just fall all the way to the floor. Usually when that happens you have two options -- pit or crash. Not sure what the deal was. There wasn't a leak of anything, so I really don't know. I certainly wouldn't have given up third place if I didn't think it was a serious. It's just frustrating. The only thing that sucks worse than a bad finish is a bad finish with a fast race car. This is a brand new car Tony Jr. built, and it was one of the fastest on the track. We even passed the leader once to get one of our laps back. It was easily a top-five car all day. You know, it's just frustrating, but we'll take the positives out of this and go on to Talladega next week. We're pretty excited about that. We won that race last year, and we think we can do it again.

Jeff Gordon -- #24 DuPont Chevrolet
37th position

Note: Accident on Lap 291; retired from race.

WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE? Well, you know, we definitely weren't too good at the beginning of the race. I was real proud of Steve and all the guys at the DuPont Chevrolet because we were just definitely making gains and staying in the game. And just working our way through a lot of adjustments. The car was feeling really, really good right there. We got on the outside and Jamie McMurray just flat out took everybody out. I think that maybe his spotter told him he was clear and he just turned left going into Turn 3 and wrecked himself unfortunately and a bunch of us other guys.

BUT, YOU WERE MAKING PROGRESS? Yeah, you know, it's all about a feel. That's what you're looking for. We really believe we could have gotten the car where it was at right there and got it in a better position and we would have looked like we were a bit faster than what we were. So, we were still making progress.
