Edwards fastest once again in second Cup practice

The only incident during Saturday morning's practice involved Jeffrey Earnhardt, who slammed the wall, 22 minutes in. He completed nine laps at that point and his No. 32 did not return to the track.

Front row starters remain quickest

Kevin Harvick, who will start from the outside of the front row, drew first blood Saturday, putting up a 28.572-second lap in the first ten minutes of practice. He bettered it to a 546 soon after and remained at the top for much of the session. Harvick took the honor of being fastest among the 34 drivers who completed ten consecutive laps, but he did not put down the outright fastest lap.

"I'm not sure if I life this." said poleman Carl Edwards early on in the practice He asked the No. 19 team who the last JGR driver to run "this" was and was told Kyle Busch. 

Edwards improved throughout the session and with 15 minutes left, he rocketed to the top of the charts with a 28.527. Edwards then radioed, "Barely touched the wall, come and look at it. Just got up there, real dirty."

Kyle Busch struggling

His teammate Kyle Busch starts 17th Sunday and struggled to find the right balance this morning.

"Getting into the corner, it seems to fall over on the right rear too easy."

"The front end doesn't do anything, just feels like you're turning the steering wheel for no reason," explained Busch. He only managed to place 18th on the time sheets.

Crew chief Adam Stevens then asked the spotter, "Can you tell where that #2 is beating us (Brad Keselowski)."

Keselowski was third quickest and less than three hundredths separated him, Harvick and Edwards. His Penske teammate Joey Logano was down at the bottom of the top twenty until late in the going, where he moved up to 13th and then to fourth. Kurt Busch rounded out the top five.

“Whatever you need in the car to be consistent, we’re going to be awesome,” a confident Daniel Knost told Danica Patrick, who posted the 25th quickest time. She ended the day just ahead of Clint Bowyer, who was once again the slowest Chaser in the field.

Martin Truex Jr. was 13th fastest, a day removed from a disappointing qualifying run that has him starting 21st. Motorsport.com has learned that he has re-signed with Furniture Row for 2016 and that the team will form an alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing, switching to Toyotas (Read More Here).

The red flag flew with nearly half the field still out on the track, but teams will get another 50 minutes to tune their setups later today.
