Kvapil Ready for 'Rough Racing' at Fontana; Front Row Driver Excited for First Run in No. 34 Ford

Statesville, NC (February 16, 2010) - You could say that Travis Kvapil will have a new home and a new family for the Auto Club 500 this week: the No. 34 car and the Long John Silver's Racing team.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup driver for Front Row Motorsports with Yates Racing will hit the two-mile Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., in the No. 34 Long John Silver's Ford Fusion - the car he is primarily slated to drive for the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season. Kvapil drove the No. 37 ExtenZe Racing Ford in the season-opening Daytona 500 in place of teammate Kevin Conway, bringing home a 29th-place finish for Front Row Motorsports with Yates Racing.

The No. 34 car will also carry an associate sponsorship from Metal Jeans for the Auto Club 500.

Kvapil, the nine-year NASCAR veteran and Janesville, Wisc., native is looking forward to working with crew chief Steven Lane and the Long John Silver's team, and the wide-open racing the Fontana track breeds.

Comments from Long John Silver's Racing team driver Travis Kvapil on racing the No. 34 Ford at Fontana:

"I'll be with the 34 car and the 34 team - my home for the rest of the season. I'll be with that car and crew for the rest of the year. So it's going to be a little shuffling around. Kevin (Conway) will be back in the 37, and (David) Gilliland will be in the 38. So things will be back to normal - things were a little bit different for Daytona.

"I'm excited about going to Fontana. It's a track that's always fun to race. With our Ford, Roush/Yates horsepower under the hood, it's going to be good for us on the big, long straight-aways. Hopefully our Fords will handle well, too. I'm just excited about all the changes that are going to be happening. I had a great time in Daytona working with the 37 guys; they've got a good, solid team. But I can't wait to get the team-building and the relationship going with (crew chief) Steven Lane and those guys on the 34.

"Probably the only thing I dislike about (Fontana) is it's all the way out on the West Coast, so you spend a lot of time sittin' on an airplane on the way there and the way home.

"The racetrack, though, is not bad. It's rough. I think that's good for racing - it adds a lot of character to the racetrack. Once we get into race trim, the groove really widens out. There will be a lot of guys on the bottom onto the apron and all the way up by the wall. So the racing there is phenomenal.

"It's kind of like Michigan, but there's a lot of differences, too. So when you get to the big two-mile racetracks, you've got to have good motors, but you've really got to have a great-handling car. The place is kind of rough, so we'll be really working on our front end, getting the bump stops and shock package and spring package right.
