Hendrick Motorsports names new manager of aerodynamics

Holl, 51, joined HMS last month after eight seasons at Michael Waltrip Racing where she served as Director of Vehicle Design. 

After earning her degree in mechanical engineering, the Guildford, England native’s career started in Formula 1 with Ferrari as a chassis designer in 1987. Seven seasons later, Holl was recruited to oversee Reynard Racing Cars’ research and development department in CART. In 1996, Holl moved to Tasman Motorsports as a racing engineer and became the first female to run a winning CART organization. After a short stint with Della Penna Motorsports as a chief engineer, Holl joined Chip Ganassi Racing to supervise its R&D division. 

Holl returned to England in 2002, where she worked with the McLaren Group as Principle Engineer. She returned to the U.S. five years later to join MWR.

At some point or another she has pretty much done it all, design, aero development, and race engineering. Over the last 6-7 years  she has learned to put those skills to work very effectively in the NASCAR arena.

During her tenure at MWR, Holl collaborated with the company’s simulation, testing and competition departments. 

"Diane is an extremely talented and creative designer with an extensive F1 background," said NASCAR Senior Vice President Scott Miller, who worked alongside Holl at MWR. "She has worked with some of the most respected teams and most highly regarded technical directors in F1 and the now defunct CART series. At some point or another she has pretty much done it all, design, aero development, and race engineering. Over the last 6-7 years  she has learned to put those skills to work very effectively in the NASCAR arena.

"I regard her as one of the best designers/design team leaders in the sport. She is an F1 transplant that totally gets the challenge of NASCAR."

Holl replaces Kurt Romberg, who has since taken a similar role at Roush Fenway Racing.
