First come marriage, then comes the top starting spot in the next last race of the Chase.

Jeff Gordon posted the quickest lap in Bud pole qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway with a lap of 134.464 mph. It is the 56th pole of Gordon's career.

"I guess we are trying to steal all of the headlines," said Gordon who was married earlier this week in Mexico. "I hope it can continue on the rest of the weekend. What a great way to start the weekend and to start the marriage."

Kevin Harvick will start on the outside pole after posting a lap of 133.973 mph, "I shot into (turn 1) a little too far, just barely locked up the left front tire and couldn't get off the brakes to let it roll. But it is still a good lap for our Reese's Cookie Chevrolet."

Brian Vickers, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Joe Nemechek complete the top five.

Notably, point leader Jimmie Johnson will start from the 29th starting spot.

Fifty-one cars attempted to qualify for the forty-three car field. Failing to make the show were Jason Leffler, Todd Kleuver, Morgan Shepard, Brandon Ash, Kevin Lepage, Kenny Wallace, Derrike Cope and Jeremy Mayfield.
