SPARTA, KY. - Petty Enterprises NASCAR Winston Cup Driver John Andretti officially opened the 2002 Kentucky Speedway test season with a two-day test in the No. 43 Cheerios Dodge.

Coming off a productive test in Daytona, Andretti is optimistic about the start of the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Season and improving on his 31st place finish in the Winston Cup point standings last season. "We're quietly going about our business and are hoping to surprise some people this season."

Petty Enterprises plans to continue making progress at Kentucky. "Kentucky, with all the work they've done here, really fits in with some other tracks we visit. We have a few ideas we want to try with the engine and suspension geometry," Andretti said.

Andretti also commented on reports that he will attempt double-duty this Memorial Day weekend by driving in the Indianapolis 500 and the NASCAR Winston Cup Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, N.C.

"We're looking at a few things, but it's not just a matter of me saying I want to do it. I have to have the blessings from Petty Enterprises and everyone involved," he said. "The great thing about it (racing twice), is that you're not waiting around all day for a race to start. If you wake up and it's sunny in Indianapolis, you know it's going to be a good day."

Kentucky Speedway opens its 2002 season May 10-11 with a Friday evening "Short Track Special" and the ARCA RE/MAX Series "The Channel 5-155" on Saturday evening. Tickets for all 2002 events at Kentucky Speedway are on sale now and can be purchased in four easy ways:
