Johnny Benson's Cheerios Special Paint Scheme

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- To celebrate Johnny Benson's return home to Michigan for the Pepsi 400 on August 22 at Michigan Speedway, the No. 26 Cheerios Ford Taurus will feature a special blue Frosted Cheerios paint scheme, which will also feature General Mills' Box Tops for Education logo. The Frosted Cheerios brand is only the second Cheerios brand to be featured on the No. 26 Taurus. General Mills and Roush Racing have joined together in 1999 to promote General Mills Box Tops for Education program. Each Roush Racing driver, including team owner Jack Roush, will appear on the Cheerios brands from August through October showing the support for Box Tops for Education and highlighting the role that education plays in their success on and off the race track. Cheerios will feature Johnny Benson, Honey Nut Cheerios will feature Mark Martin, Frosted Cheerios will feature Jeff Burton, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios will feature Chad Little, Multi-Grain Cheerios will feature Kevin Lepage and Team Cheerios will feature all the Roush Racing drivers with owner Jack Roush. "Racing in Michigan is always a special homecoming for Johnny since he was raised in Grand Rapids and he is a big supporter of our Box Tops For Education program," said Scott Hayes, Motorsports Coordinator for General Mills. "We felt this was an ideal time to highlight both Box Tops for Education and Frosted Cheerios, which is one of Johnny's favorite cereals." The Box Tops For Education program allows students to help their schools earn money throughout the year by turning in Box Tops from General Mills cereal, snacks and Yoplait products. The schools can then mail the Box Tops to General Mills and receive a check for a cash amount in return. During the 1997-98 school year 40,000 schools across the country submitted Box Tops that were redeemed for more than $8,000,000 donated by General Mills.

The lasting NASCAR legacy after Dale Earnhardt’s death

On February 18, 2001, seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Dale Earnhardt – the fearless ‘Intimidator’ – was in his element at Daytona International Speedway. As the cars tore through Turns 3 and 4 on that fateful final lap, Earnhardt maintained the strongarm tactics that encapsulated his persona… but his actions in those moments sadly proved to be his last.
