“Tighter everywhere,” Busch said on his last run. The driver of the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevy completed 25 laps, but was happier with earlier adjustments.

Martin Truex Jr. led the Toyotas with a lap of 185.020 mph followed by local favorite Carl Edwards (185.020 mph), Austin Dillon (184.925 mph) and the Ford of Trevor Bayne (184.811 mph).

“These lap times are plenty good,” crew chief Dave Rogers told Edwards following his final run.

Denny Hamlin (184.723 mph), Kevin Harvick (184.565 mph), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (184.527 mph), Aric Almirola (184.483 mph) and Matt Kenseth (184.527 mph) rounded out the top 10 in single lap speeds.

Jimmie Johnson, who leads the Sprint Cup tour with three wins at Kansas Speedway and is the defending winner of this race,  lost 15 minutes of practice due to failing pre-race template inspection three times. He posted the 11th quickest time (19.285-seconds, 184.395 mph).

However, Johnson led the Best 10 Consecutive Lap Average with a speed of 183.286 mph.

Tony Stewart, who ran the most laps (36), was second on the list with an average speed of 182.247 mph, followed by last fall’s winner Joey Logano (182.017 mph), Jamie McMurray (181.704 mph) and rookie Ryan Blaney (181.464 mph).

Only nine drivers completed 10-plus lap runs. The final four were Kyle Busch, Stenhouse, Brad Keselowski and Danica Patrick.
