Jimmy Spencer speaks out about the Tobacco situation
With the lawsuit that has been passed the government has basically said that the advertisement targets children. Here is what Jimmy Spencer has to say about that. "I hope I am a good enough father and my wife's a good enough mother that my children don't smoke," Spencer said. "I'm pushing for them not to smoke. I don't want any kids to smoke. OK? That's my side of the Camel deal." "But I'm proud to have Camel on my car. Because their whole motto has always been, 'If you smoke, then smoke our brand.' That's all it's ever been." "I am proud to be associated with RJR and hope I am for the next 25 years. And I mean every word of that. Because they are great people. And they do not push cigarettes on children. They never have."
McReynolds and Earnhardt talk about "The Streak"
With Earnhardt on the longest skid that he has ever had in racing he and McReynolds speak out. ``I've thrown everything I know to throw at it ... but I'm not sure what else to throw,'' said McReynolds, who came to Richard Childress Racing over the winter from Robert Yates We're sixth in the points and only 23 out of fifth, but the only reason we're there is that we're not having trouble and other people are,'' ``He puts more pressure on himself than anybody could ever put on him,'' Earnhardt said. ``I'm frustrated we haven't won, but I'm not frustrated with the team or with Larry. Some race fan said Larry should be working on the race car instead of working on TV on off weekends,'' added Earnhardt, referring to McReynolds' part-time job as a race commentator. ``We ought to call that guy when Larry is driving home at 1 or 2 in the morning from the race shop and see what he's doing.'' California gets the green light to expand
All of the more than 72,000 seats and luxury box seats were sold for the inaugural California 500 last Sunday at Roger Penske's new Fontana, Calif., track. Greg Penske, Roger's son and president of the California Speedway, said ticket-buyers' enthusiasm about the first Winston Cup race there will have an immediate effect. ``Based on what we did Sunday and on our waiting list, we have approval to go to 107,000 (seats) and we could start on that expansion on Oct. 20 - the day after our Busch race,'' he said. ``That's going to be our plan. Based on where we are today and the amount of people who couldn't get tickets, we can add another 35,000 seats.'' Another Japan?
The JournalNow reports that Bill France is trying to fit the new Motegi, Japan, track into the 1998 schedule.
