Logano edges Kahne for Sprint Cup pole at Kansas

Joey Logano kicked off his bid to claim a second-consecutive Kansas win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series by earning pole position for Saturday's SpongeBob SquarePants 400 with a fast lap of 192.397 mph/28.067 seconds.. It's Logano's fourth pole of the 2015 season and Team Penske's second of the day, after Will Power's triumph in IndyCar.

"That Shell/Pennzoil Ford Fusion was on a rail and did whatever I asked it to do," Logano said.

"We were third-quick in practice. I thought we were faster (than the car showed in round two), obviously."

Logano will share the front row with Kasey Kahne. Logano's Team Penske teammate, Brad Keselowski, is set to start third with Martin Truex Jr. fourth.

After posting the fastest lap in the first round and going second-quickest in round two, Carl Edwards was the last driver to post a time in the final round, but he could omly manage fifth.

Erik Jones, who will be making his first official Sprint Cup start Saturday night, was fastest during practice earlier in the day and qualified a respectable 12th.

Greg Biffle became the first Roush Fenway Racing driver of the season to advance to the third round of a qualifying session this season.

Brendan Gaughan was the only driver who failed to make the race.
