Martinsville Speedway NEXTEL Cup Schedule Unchanged For 2006
The 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series schedule at Martinsville Speedway will be a mirror image of the 2005 season.
The first 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup stop at Martinsville will be the Virginia 500 on Sunday, April 2. The second stop, the SUBWAY 500 on Sunday, October 22, will again be the sixth race in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.
Both Martinsville NEXTEL Cup Series events in 2006 will be supported by a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Saturday. Qualifying for both of the 2006 NEXTEL Cup events will remain on Friday.
"We like where our events are on the schedule," said Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. "Excitement for the season will be building in early April and in October we're right in the middle of the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup. It doesn't get much better than that."
The Kroger 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race will be run on Saturday, April 1, the day before the Virginia 500. Qualifying for both the Kroger 250 and the Virginia 500 will be held on Friday, March 31.
The Kroger 200 Craftsman Truck Series race is set for Saturday, October 21, with the SUBWAY 500 on October 22. Qualifying for both events will be held on Friday, October 20.
Other Martinsville Speedway events in 2006 include:
A 200-lap NASCAR Busch Series event under the lights on July 22. Practice will be held on July 21, also under the lights.
The Made In America Whelen 300 NASCAR Modified Tour race on Saturday, September 2. Both the race and qualifying on Friday, September 1 will be under the lights.
The Bailey's 300 NASCAR Late Model Stock race on Sunday, October 1. Qualifying will be held on Saturday, September 30.
Our schedule is solid from top to bottom for 2006," said Campbell. "With the two Cup and Truck weekends, the return of the Busch Series and the Modifieds and Late Models, we've got a lot of excitement on tap for race fans."
