National Fatherhood Initiative to honor NASCAR Champion Dale Jarrett with 2003 Fatherhood Award
Award to Be Presented at the Sirius Satellite Radio 400

Conover, North Carolina (June 11, 2003)
National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) has announced that Dale Jarrett, NASCAR great, will receive a 2003 Fatherhood Award. The award will be presented at the Sirius Satellite Radio 400 at the Michigan International Speedway on June15. Mr. Jarrett is being honored for his dedication to his family, and his work in making his sport more family-friendly.

NFI President Roland C. Warren said, "We are honored that Dale Jarrett has accepted a 2003 Fatherhood Award. The Jarrett family provides a great example of how good fathers leave a legacy for their children. Dale followed in his father Ned's footsteps - both on and off the track - in becoming not only a champion in his sport, but also a great father and husband to his family."

Mr. Jarrett, usually not very outspoken about the business or politics of his sport, has made public his desire for keeping NASCAR family-friendly. Even as he excelled at the highest levels of his sport, his family was always his priority.

The other 2003 Fatherhood Awardees, who will be awarded at the 6th National Summit on Fatherhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 12th, are Frank W. Abagnale; Dr. Stephen R. Covey; Chris Gardner; James Earl Jones; Dave Koz and Jeff Koz; H.F. (Gerry) Lenfest; General Nutrition Centers; Johnson & Johnson; State Farm; and The Valvoline Company.

Inaugurated in 1997, the Fatherhood Awards are presented each year to individuals, corporations and organizations who make a substantial contribution to strengthening involved, responsible and committed fatherhood in their work or personal lives.

Past Fatherhood Awardees include: actors Tom Selleck and Stephen Collins; country music superstar Tim McGraw; NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly; Multi-Platinum Recording Group Lonestar; AT&T; and Chevrolet.

The premier fatherhood renewal organization in the country, NFI is a non-partisan, non-sectarian civic initiative working in every sector and at every level of society to end father absence. NFI's national public service advertising campaign promoting responsible fatherhood has generated radio and television time valued at approximately $250 million. Through its National Fatherhood Clearinghouse and Resource Center, NFI also offers a wide range of educational materials and outreach tools to assist local organizations interested in reaching and supporting fathers.

Dale A. Jarrett, son of NASCAR Champion Ned Jarrett, is a professional racecar driver for Robert Yates Racing. Much of his maturation behind the wheel came through participation in NASCAR's Busch Series. He won 11 Busch races and 14 poles before leaving the series permanently in 1999. In 1991, Jarrett captured his first Winston Cup victory in the Champion Spark Plug 400 at Michigan Speedway while competing for the Wood Brothers. In 1993, Jarrett won the race that catapulted his career: the 1993 Daytona 500. The Jarretts are one of only two father-son combinations to win championships in NASCAR's elite series. Jarrett resides in Hickory, North Carolina with his wife, Kelley, and their three children.
