Inspired by Pitbull, the “revolution” sweeping through NASCAR

The NASCAR Cup Series is changing. Whether it be the gradual morphing out the seasoned drivers of yesterday as the next generation step up, a radical calendar shake-up featuring more road courses than ever before and the prospect of an all-new car on the horizon, stock car racing’s highest level is nearing the end of a huge facelift.

But it is not just on-track where the winds of change are whistling through. In the last year, NASCAR has taken a stand against racism, promoted social justice and, thanks to two brand-new owners, is opening itself up to communities that historically have been largely nonplussed by the whole racing thing.

That is something one of the new high-profile owners is determined to address directly at the root causes and build on the work he has already been doing in setting up a series of SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management) schools to help foster an interest in STEM subjects among minority students.
