RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger) Qualified 1st

"It was a good run. I was really happy with the car in practice. Our last run was our best run and moved us to P-1. In general, I thought it was a good lap. It was a bit conservative, but it was a good lap. Both laps were almost identical -- I think within four-thousandths of a second. It wasn't perfect, but obviously good enough.

"I think we have a good car. It's been a while since I've felt a car this good around this race track. I think that we've gotten off on the right foot for the weekend. I feel like we're very competitive. We've learned some things about this car, especially at short-tracks. Hopefully if will pay off on Saturday night"

ELLIOTT SADLER (No. 19 Stanley Tools Dodge Charger) Qualified 2nd

"That was a great lap for the Stanley Dodge. Darrell Waltrip will tell you it's all about momentum and driver confidence. I know it's just qualifying and not the race, but we needed this. We needed a good run today. We had such a bad week at Texas. Kasey and I have brand new cars here and they're both pretty fast right now.

"It was a great lap. I'm so proud of my guys. I'm not the best qualifier in the world here at Phoenix. For our car to be this fast and comfortable to drive, we should be good Saturday night. It depends a lot on how you get your weekend started. Track position is very important; pit selection is very important. My guys put a lot of effort into the qualifying deal and it showed up for us today."

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PARKING LOT WITH CARL EDWARDS AND YOUR MOTORHOME?

"We were all sitting in my bus eating some chicken watching him (Carl) trying to back his truck in-and-out; we're parked next to each other. They were hollering 'he's getting kind of close, he's getting close' and all of a sudden the whole bus rocked. I was like 'did he just hit this bus?' He came in and was very gentleman about it and said he was sorry and told us that he'd take care of it. I was like 'you've won three of four races this year making us all look stupid on Sunday, how do you run into the back of a parked bus that is 48-foot long?' We laughed it off and we'll get it fixed. He said that 'you can go retaliate on mine', but we all know what his bus looks like. We're going to get it appraised; he's won three races this year so the appraisal is going to be pretty high. He's good going fast forward, but I don't know about him backing out anymore (laughing)."
