“My friend had a double mastectomy as a preemptive strike because she actually tested positive for the breast cancer gene,” Patrick said. “She went through everything and hopefully avoided it, but it hit close to home.

“I think far too many people know someone affected by this disease. We wanted to do something a little different this year, something to honor people who have fought the disease, and we wanted to do it in a way that might help drive donations.”

Patrick, 32, who has three top 10 finishes this season including a career-high sixth at Atlanta Motor Speedway, will also don a pink firesuit for in the final three races in October to support the cause.

Early detection, education is key

GoDaddy will donate $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which promotes the importance of early detection. According to its statistics, one in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime.

“GoDaddy has focused on this important cause over the past three years and NASCAR has been an excellent platform to help raise awareness,” said GoDaddy Chief Marketing Officer Barb Rechterman, whose sister is a breast cancer survivor. “You’ll see our ‘Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer’ campaign throughout the month, on the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevy, on our website and in social media because we are committed to the belief that every little bit counts, whether it’s a small donation or simply spreading the word.”
