Reed Sorenson will drive the No. 44 Golden Corral Chevy for Xtreme Motorsports at Daytona International Speedway.

Peter Sospenzo will be the crew chief. The team will use ProMotor engines.

“I’m very excited to have Reed in the car,” team owner John Cohen told Motorsport.com. “Reed is young, but at the same time he’s a veteran. I think he’ll do a good job.”

Sorenson, 29, will have to race his way into the Daytona 500. Last July, Sorenson qualified second for Tommy Baldwin Racing. His best qualifying effort in the 500 was fifth in 2008 while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. Sorenson posted his best career finish of fifth in the same race. In 11 starts, he has one top five, three top 10s and an average finish of 22.2.

It's going to come down to being at the right place at the right time. But I think this style of qualifying benefits the smaller teams.

“I worked with Peter before in 2012 and we already know each other’s language, so it should be ok,” Sorenson said. “I’m looking forward to racing with Team Xtreme and happy to have Golden Corral back on board.

"I have confidence running at Daytona because I've run well there in the past. It's going to come down to being at the right place at the right time. But I think this style of qualifying benefits the smaller teams.”

The Golden Corral is a one-off deal for Xtreme Motorsports. The sponsor will rejoin Tommy Baldwin Racing for the other three restrictor plate races on the No. 7 Chevy with driver Alex Bowman.
