Richard Childress Racing reacts to appeal outcome, names interim crew chief

Richard Childress Racing has reacted to the outcome of today's eight-out appeal, following penalties assessed to the team after NASCAR found that the No. 31 illegally manipulated the tires at Auto Club Speedway. You can read the full story on what the panel decided HERE.

"I'd like to thank the Appeals Panel for taking the time to hear our appeal today," the RCR statement read. "While they decided to reduce the penalties to the minimum penalties for a P5 violation, I am disappointed that the entire penalty was not overturned given the facts we presented."

"In order for the team to move forward, and focus our efforts on the upcoming races, Luke (Lambert), Phil (Surgen) and James (Bender) will begin serving their suspensions this weekend at Bristol." 

Another appeal still possible

"We are still discussing our options and have not yet determined whether to appeal the penalties to the Final Appeals Officer."

In the interim, a veteran crew chief will sit in place of Luke Lambert on top of Ryan Newman's pit box as he fights to claw his way back up the points table. Todd Parrott is that man and has an impressive resume as a crew chief, winning 31 races and the 1999 championship with Dale Jarrett
