CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 15, 2000 -- NASCAR fans made waves today on Lake Norman in Charlotte, N.C., at the Rusty Wallace "Splash for Kids," a Polaris watercraft charity ride.

Wallace led dozens of participants on the four-hour ride on a Polaris Genesis watercraft custom-painted to look like his No. 2 Winston Cup Ford.

"It was fun to ride watercraft on Lake Norman with true NASCAR fans and help children in need," said Wallace. "The turnout was exceptional and so was the amount of money raised for Speedway Children's Charities, a cause Polaris and I strongly support."

During the event, riders zig-zagged the lake on a "poker run" to win prizes, including a Richard Petty Driving Experience and two pit passes for the October 2000 Winston Cup Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte.

After the ride, riders mingled with Wallace and placed bids on authentic NASCAR memorabilia, including a Rusty Wallace die cast car, rear =BC panel and chase jacket. All auction proceeds also benefited Speedway Children's Charities, a nonprofit foundation that distributes funds to charities providing emotional support, medical and social services to children in need.

"Polaris was delighted to give watercraft enthusiasts and NASCAR fans the opportunity to spend the day with Rusty Wallace," said Deb deLambert, watercraft marketing communications manager, Polaris Industries. "Raising money for a great cause has never been so fun."
