Skip Barber trained drivers and Dodge have launched the first salvos in the war to win the 2001 Daytona 500. With the field now virtually complete, a pair of Skip Barber grads and Dodges driven by Bill Elliot on pole and Stacy Compton alongside will pace the field to the green flag in The Great American Race scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18.

In today's Twin 125s, Skip Barber and Dodge held the upper hand. Dodge took its first NASCAR win in it's triumphant return in the first of the two heats at the hands of Sterling Marlin. Though the victory doesn't count for points, it proves the speed of the 2001 Intrepids. That will make it three Dodges pacing the field at the start.

Three more Skip Barber alumni made into the Top-10 of the starting field thus making half of the fastest 10 Skip Barber graduates. First time winner in the season ending race of 2000 Jerry Nadeau will line up on the inside of row three. Nadeau recorded the second fastest times in qualifying last week only to have it disallowed as NASCAR Officials questioned the car's ride height. Jeff Burton will occupy the eighth spot on the grid while brother Ward put his Dodge Intrepid in the tenth position.

The front row for the Busch Series opener is likewise an all Skip Barber affair with Joe Nemechek taking the premier spot ahead of Randy LaJoie for Saturday's NAPA Auto Parts 300.
