SAVEMART 300, Sonoma, Calif. -- Ernie Irvan led 68 of the 74 laps in the California wine country, losing the lead only when he was in the pits.

No one could touch him on the curving, winding road course, and the result was Irvan's third victory of the season and his 12th overall. Irvan started from the pole in his second victory at Sonoma in three years.

Geoff Bodine's second-place finish was the best for his new team since he bought it in 1993. Dale Earnhardt finished third. Irvan picked up 15 more points on Dale Earnhardt in their fight for the Winston Cup championship and extended his lead in the point standings to 40.
